In our second knockout round game of the day, the Three Lions defeated the Lions of Teranga. Jordan Henderson’s late goal in the 39th minute and Harry Kane’s late strike in stoppage time gave England a 2-0 lead at the break in the first half. As the break began, the Senegalese were in a panic. And when the game resumed, nothing changed for the better.
2-0 is England’s advantage over Senegal after the first half. The Lions of Teranga appeared to be more dangerous for the whole of the first half. Ismailia Sarr of Senegal had a fantastic opportunity to score in the first twenty minutes of play, but his effort missed the target. A mistaken clearance by England’s defense gave Boulaye Dia another opportunity from the edge of the 6-yard box ten minutes later.
Bukayo Saka increased England’s lead to three goals twelve minutes into the second half. The youthful forward scored his third goal of the competition with it. With England’s victory, the next round promises to be a titanic struggle. The quarterfinal matchup is set for next Saturday against France.
