Mavericks unveil statue of franchise legend Dirk Nowitzki
Just off the boulevard that bears his name, a statue of Dirk Nowitzki now stands outside the American Airlines Center. Owner of the Dallas Mavericks Mark Cuban made a big statue pledge for the player who assisted in the team’s lone NBA title, and he kept his word. Nearly 24 feet tall, the white-bronze statue of Nowitzki’s iconic one-legged fadeaway jumper.
With the assistance of his son Max, Nowitzki, who ranks sixth all-time in the NBA in scoring with 31,560 points despite playing his entire 21-year career with the Mavericks, helped unveil the statue. The statue is rich with details, using the shoes and uniform that Nowitzki wore while leading the Mavericks to the 2010-11 NBA championship, the franchise’s lone title.
